The Tall Ships Races are the biggest international ocean races for Sail Training- ships. Everything about this annual event is dedicated to the trainees. There are about 3000 crew members on the ships, with more than half being trainees. The goal for 2018 is to reach 350 trainees. Participating in the Tall Ships Races is an unforgettable experience for people aged 15 to 25 which they will cherish and remember for a lifetime.
Maritime event with a mission
In addition to the event being an impressive public spectacle, The Tall Ships Races have a mission. The personal development and training of young people by providing unique sailing training, regardless of nationality, culture, religion, gender or social background. The historical harbour city Harlingen is the perfect place to welcome these mighty.
Attention for sustainability
With the sailing sport being an appealing symbol, the Tall Ships Races Harlingen 2018 focuses on sustainability. All ships in the Harlingen harbour are connected to ‘Wadden Electricity’. Wadden Electricity is part of the Wind Power Centre, located in Harlingen and is also a Partner of Harlingen Sail.
Conversations with the Harlingen council have taken place about the use and promotion of Liquified Natural Gas (biogas or forest compensated gas).
